Waverton Evangelical Fellowship was born through the call of God on the lives of six Christian families to establish an Evangelical witness in the village of Waverton. An existing Children’s Holiday Club each year that touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families helped to clarify the vision for a regular witness to these families and the whole village. The first public act of worship was held on 24th April 1977 and the first of the regular Sunday services was held on 15th May 1977.

The Fellowship met for seven years in the “Barn”, a converted potting-shed belonging to one of church members. As numbers increased so the vision to establish a long-term place of worship and witness grew. God wonderfully provided a former Welsh Presbyterian building right at the centre of the village and the new building was officially opened on 13th October 1984. God has continued to build and develop His work in and through the Fellowship. The vision for further growth is continually before us.

The church building consists of a large worship area seating about 140 people, a smaller meeting room/reception area, a balcony, a large back room, a small coffee bar/crêche and a kitchen and toilet block. In September of 2004 a new annexe was opened which provided the Fellowship with a second large hall, quiet room, craft room and additional toilet facilities. This has made an enormous difference to the various ministries offered.

The average Sunday morning congregation numbers between 90 and 120, with 60/80 adults and 30/40 children and young people. The Sunday evening congregation numbers some 30/50 people. The age profile covers the whole range from babies to 90+, with increasing numbers of children and young families. Most of the congregation live in the village (which numbers 3,500+) but a good number come from Chester and the surrounding area. Most of the congregation are committed Christians, but a growing number who come are not yet Christians.
